Not sure where to start

Most people arrive without a plan. That's normal

Start with the practical filters: availability, in person or video, treatment approach. That narrows things a lot.

Then read four or five profiles and notice who you'd feel least awkward talking to. Still stuck? Book a consultation with two of them. It costs nothing and it's usually the fastest way to tell.

You get one free consultation with each provider, so it's worth reading a profile properly before you book rather than working through the list.

Everything you'd want to know before booking

  • Registration and college
  • Their approaches, in plain language
  • In person, video, or both
  • Current availability
  • What they work with most often
  • Session length and rate
  • Languages spoken
  • Whether they offer assessments

Providers write their own profiles. We don't rewrite them or rank them.

Getting started

Four steps, start to first session

  1. 1. Browse the directory

No account needed. Filter by what you need, then read profiles properly. Take your time.

  2. 2. Book a time

Create an account. Pick a slot from your provider's calendar. Consultations are free. For a session, pay securely at checkout.

  3. 3. Fill in your intake, once

Written after you create your profile. It goes to whoever you book with, now and later, so you never write it again. If you come back to address another concern, you can simply change the intake to include the latest information.

  4. 4. Meet

In person at their clinic, or by secure video. Your provider will have read your intake before you sit down.

If the fit isn't right

Changing providers shouldn't mean starting from scratch

Fit matters more than almost anything else in therapy, and sometimes you only find out after a session or two. That's normal, and it isn't a failure on anyone's part.

Find a new provider and continue treatment with fewer barriers. With your new provider, you can focus on what you need as share as much or as little as you want.

Before you commit

What a first meeting looks like

Consultations

Twenty minutes, no charge, no obligation. Describe what's going on, ask how they work, ask what experience they have with what you're dealing with, and see how it feels to talk to them.

You can book a consultation with as many different providers as you like. It is advised to not exceed three provider to help you get started with treatment sooner. So it's worth arriving with two or three things you want to know.

What a first session is like

Your provider will have reviewed your intake and met with you during consultation, so they'll already have some context on why you're there. From there, they'll fill in the gaps, explain confidentiality and its limits. From there, you start working together based on your goals. You don't need to prepare anything.

Assessments

What a formal assessment involves

Some providers offer diagnostic and psychoeducational assessments, running across several appointments: an interview, structured testing, and a session to go through the results. The structure may look different with each provider, so feel free to ask them what to expect.

They're private pay, not covered by OHIP, and cost considerably more than a therapy session, check the provider's profile. If you're considering one, book a consultation first and ask what's included and what you'll receive at the end. Confirm whether a written report is standard, and whether reports are typically accepted by schools or employers.

The practical side

What it costs, and what stays private

Costs and insurance

The platform is free. Each provider sets their own rate, shown on the profile and again at checkout.

Some provider offer a reduced fee. You can check their profile and confirm during consultation. The provider decides.

Sessions aren't covered by OHIP. Whether your extended health plan covers them depends on your plan and your provider's designation, both of which you can check before you book.

Cancellations and refunds

You can cancel or reschedule at any time up to 24 hours before your scheduled time. Payment is processed when appointment occurs. Rescheduling and Cancellations cannot be made within 24 hours, no-shows, are charged the full appointment fee.

Consultations are free, so there's nothing to charge. If you have to cancel one late, or miss it, you aren't billed and you can book another. Let the provider know if you can. It's twenty minutes they've held for you.

Privacy and confidentiality

Who sees what

Your intake goes only to the providers you actually book with. Browsing a profile shares nothing.

Your information is stored in Canada and handled under Canadian Privacy law Messages and video appointments are encrypted.

Your provider holds your clinical records and is the health information custodian for them under Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act. Your right to see your records, to ask for correction, or to have information released runs to them, not the platform.

All providers are regulated professionals bound by their college’s confidentiality standards. Those have legal limits, including where there’s a risk of serious harm to you or someone else, suspected harm to a child, cerain mandatory reports about other regulated professionals, and court orders. Your provider will go through this with you at the start.
