About Spurose
A platform for finding, booking, and staying with mental health care in Ontario
Spurose is where people in Ontario find and book regulated mental health providers directly, and where those providers get the tools to run a practice without four separate subscriptions.
What it is
A directory and a set of tools
Booking, billing, messaging, video, and documentation in one place. Clients browse, choose, and book directly.
Not a clinic and not an group practice. We don't employ providers, set their fees, or have any say in how they work.
Not medical either. Nobody here prescribes, and sessions aren't covered by OHIP.
We don't provide therapy, supervise it or direct it, and we don't hold clinical records. The providers do all of that.
Mission and vision
To make finding, and changing, mental
health support in Ontario something you can do yourself
The vision we're working toward: you choose your own provider rather than being assigned one, changing your mind doesn't cost you three months and a fresh set of intake forms, and independent clinicians can build a sustainable practice without handing over most of their income or their autonomy to do it.
Principles
Six things we
hold to
Choice belongs to the client
We show who's available and let people decide. We don't rank providers by what they pay us, and nobody pays for placement.
Providers stay independent
Everyone here runs their own practice. They set their rates, choose their clients, and decide how they work.
Fit is not failure
Not clicking with a provider is normal and common. Changing to someone else should be an ordinary step, not a reason to give up. It's why every provider offers a free consultation and why you only write your intake once.
Say only what's true
No invented statistics, no borrowed credibility, no promises about outcomes. We don't publish reviews, ratings or testimonials. The regulatory colleges prohibit them, and we agree with the reasoning: someone choosing a provider while unwell isn't well placed to weight a stranger's five stars, and a client asked for praise is in an awkward position.
Privacy isn't a selling point
Information is stored in Canada, encrypted, and never sold. It isn't a selling point. It's the baseline.
Everyone's reason is a good enough reason
Nobody needs to be in crisis to deserve support, and nobody needs to explain themselves here.
How verification works
Nobody appears in the
directory unchecked
We confirm every applicant's standing with their Ontario college before their profile goes live, and re-check it annually.
Providers designation, college, and registration number on profile. Every college keeps a public register, free and open to anyone.
What verification doesn't tell you is whether someone is right for you. That's what the free consultation is for.
Why it was created
Finding a therapist is harder than it needs to be
Most of the difficulty has nothing to do with therapy.
You open twenty tabs and try to work out, from a paragraph and a headshot, whether someone is right for you. You email one of them and wait. Maybe they're full. Maybe they don't reply. So you go back and start again.
And if you do get in and it isn't the right fit after two sessions, the whole thing resets: new search, new account, and new forms. A lot of people stop there. Not because therapy didn't work, but because the process wore them out before therapy got a chance.
Meanwhile the providers on the other side of that search are running four separate tools to keep a small practice going, and carrying the cost of them whether the calendar is full or empty.
Spurose exists to fix the part around therapy, not therapy itself. That part is between you and your provider, and it always will be.
